Carpet Direction Installation

After the old flooring and carpet cushion have been pulled up vacuum the subfloor before the new carpet is installed to minimize dirt and dust.

This is the simplest carpet tile installation pattern. Stretch the padding so that the pieces are butted tightly. The carpet layer has finished and at first glance it looks great. Provide drawings with the approved location of seams edge moldings carpet direction and accessories adhesives cushion etc.

Mix carpet tiles from different packs to account for dye lot variations. Reposition your body to examine the carpet in another direction. The manufacturer recommends how to orient the tiles. Extra hidden carpet should be folded back at the top and bottom of stairs so that as the edges of the tread are worn the carpet can be moved to hide the wear.

A carpeted surface should be. Use a staple hammer tacker to fasten the carpet pad against the edge of the tack strip. But even for non patterned carpeting you can detect the direction of the carpet s pile by looking at it from different directions in strong light. Generally seams should run in the same direction as most foot traffic.

Staple the seam of the pad alternating staples so that they aren t beside one another. Any two carpet tiles facing in different directions will appear to be slightly different colors. Keep in mind that your new floor coverings need to be installed over a structurally sound subfloor. On stairways the pile should sweep down.

Consider carpet pile direction when seaming. Lay out the carpet pad perpendicular to the direction you plan to install the carpet image 1 and staple it near the tackless strips with a staple hammer image 2. The installation options for square carpet tiles are fairly limited but offer the opportunity to create patterns and designs that can t be achieved with broadloom carpet. Provide an appropriate surface upon which to install carpet including confirmation of concrete moisture and alkali conditions cleanliness surface quality and floor levelness.

If you don t see dips buckles or divets in the surface of the carpet your installer did a good job. Due to the nature of the carpet this is the direction it should be installed whether on the floor or stairs. Carpet does have a direction usually indicated on the carpet backing. Ideally you would install carpet on stairs as if the roll were rolling down the stairs.

Obviously if your carpet has a pattern seaming two pieces requires careful attention to matching the pattern between adjoining pieces. Tape neighboring pieces together with 2 to 3 inch masking tape or as directed by the manufacturer. Step 5 staple any pad seams. Install carpet pad so that any seams will be at right angles to those in the carpet.
